Ammonium Chloride – Fishless Aquarium Cycling
A concentrated ammonium chloride solution designed to provide a controlled ammonia source for establishing beneficial nitrifying bacteria in new aquariums and quarantine systems.
Made using 99% pure ammonium chloride (NH₄Cl) and prepared at approximately 40 mg/L TAN.
Directions
Determine the recommended dose for your aquarium volume, then begin with ¼ of the recommended dose.
Allow the solution to circulate thoroughly, then test your ammonia level.
If required, repeat with additional small doses until the desired ammonia concentration is reached. We recommend targeting approximately 2 ppm ammonia (TAN) for a typical fishless cycle.
Approximate full dose:
- 50 L — 2.5 mL
- 100 L — 5 mL
- 200 L — 10 mL
- 500 L — 25 mL
- 1,000 L — 50 mL
Always test before adding more. Aquarium test kits can vary, and the actual ammonia concentration may be affected by water volume and other factors.
Important Precautions
- For fishless cycling only.
- Do not add directly to aquariums containing fish, corals, invertebrates or other livestock.
- Do not exceed the required ammonia concentration.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Store tightly sealed and away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Do not mix with other chemicals or cleaning products.
- Use a reliable ammonia test kit to monitor levels throughout the cycling process.
